1 in 6 tickets won: Montana Lottery glitch forces game halt
Bally’s Intralot will cover the payout, which the lottery says caused the fault.
The hit
A glitch in Montana Lottery’s new Montana Millionaire game produced winners at 11 times the intended rate before officials suspended sales, according to GamblingNews. Some 12,919 tickets sold in the first 30 minutes after the game launched on 1 November, creating 2,010 instant winners, roughly 1 in 6 tickets won versus an intended 1 in 74.
Why it matters
Every ticket bought before the suspension still pays out & still counts for December’s $1m raffle draws. The fault lay with Bally’s Intralot’s new central gaming system, introduced in September, according to the Montana Lottery.
The record
| Launch date | Montana Millionaire launched Sunday, 1 November |
|---|---|
| Tickets sold before suspension | 12,919 |
| Winners produced | 2,010, roughly 1 in 6 tickets, versus an intended 1 in 74 |
| Total payout | $608,600, including 991 prizes of $100 & 1,019 of $500 |
| Who pays | Bally’s Intralot |
| Next draw | 28 December, six $1m prizes, existing tickets still eligible |
