Evolution Malta to pay £4.75m over unlicensed UK sites
Regulator says Evolution’s games turned up on six unlicensed UK sites.
The hit
Evolution Malta Holding is to pay a £4.75m settlement after the Gambling Commission found its casino games appeared on six unlicensed websites reachable by UK consumers. The regulator says Evolution’s money laundering risk assessment failed to flag two operators supplying its games without a Commission licence.
Why it matters
According to Commission enforcement director John Pierce, there was a significant gap between Evolution’s paper controls & their effectiveness in practice. The failings uncovered were serious enough for the Commission to consider licence suspension. Evolution responded swiftly & comprehensively once the issues were identified, & later testing found no further instances of concern. Pierce says the case is a lesson for the industry: operators must keep risk assessments current & know who is accessing their games, & how.

What happens next
The Commission says it will keep testing the market for licensed products surfacing on illegal sites targeting GB consumers, with further enforcement action possible where failings are found.
