Michigan opens online sportsbooks to fixed-odds horse racing
The shift lets bettors lock in odds the moment a bet is placed.
The hit
The Michigan Gaming Control Board says licensed online sportsbooks can now offer fixed-odds wagers on horse racing, starting Friday. The format locks in payout odds at the moment a bet is placed, unlike pari-mutuel wagering, where odds can shift until post time, according to the board.
Why it matters
For bettors, it means a sports-betting-style experience on horse racing: know the payout before the race starts instead of riding a pool that moves. The same consumer protections that apply to Michigan sports betting now cover these wagers too, the board says.
