Duel.com keeps Swedish-language site despite Sweden ban
Spelinspektionen found SEK & Swedish still on the site & no IP block in place.
The hit
Sweden’s Spelinspektionen has issued an immediate ban on Immortal Snail LLC, the operator behind offshore bookmaker Duel.com. The operator told the regulator Sweden as a country should be IP-blocked, it cannot control SEK payments & it should not stop offering Swedish as a site language, according to Spelinspektionen’s filing.
Why it matters
Duel.com runs on an Anjouan Gaming Authority licence, according to SBC News. SBC News says the operator “won’t conform” with the ban, testing whether Sweden, or any regulator, can actually stop an offshore site reaching its consumers without help from Big Tech platforms like Meta.
The record
| Operator’s licence | Anjouan Gaming Authority |
|---|---|
| Markets present (unlicensed) | US, Canada, India, Finland, Germany, Poland, Norway, Spain, Sweden (Blask Index for presence; SBC News on licensing) |
| Regulator’s finding | SEK & Swedish still appear from a Swedish IP; IP blocking against Sweden not implemented (Spelinspektionen) |
What happens next
Watch whether Spelinspektionen escalates beyond the ban, & whether Meta acts on Duel.com given the Dutch trade body VNLOK’s separate court summons of Meta.
