Singapore gambling law forces 4 esports teams to drop names
BC.GAME says it has submitted a new name & is waiting to hear back from tournament organiser PGL.
The hit
Four esports teams owned by offshore gambling firms have reportedly been given 24 hours to drop their names, logos & stickers before PGL Major Singapore 2026, according to iGB. BC.GAME, 1win Esports, BetBoom & Parivision are affected because their entire organisation names reference gambling brands, not just sponsor logos.
Why it matters
Singapore’s gambling advertising law bars promotion of unlicensed betting brands, including sponsorship & brand-sharing tied to events. For gambling firms betting on esports as a growth market, it is a reminder that regional advertising rules can force a rebrand with almost no notice, even for teams that have done this before in other countries.
The record
| Tournament | PGL Major Singapore 2026, 24 November-13 December (PGL) |
|---|---|
| Teams forced to fully rebrand | BC.GAME, 1win Esports, BetBoom, Parivision |
| Rebrand deadline | 24 hours, per Esports Base Telegram channel |
| Legal basis | Section 85, Singapore Gambling Control Act 2022 |
| Legal online gambling | Singapore Pools only |
| Precedent | BetBoom competed as ‘BB Team’ at IEM Beijing; 1win as ‘Team Iron Wing’ at The International (August) |
What happens next
Watch for PGL & Valve to confirm the approved replacement names, & whether BC.GAME’s submitted alternative is accepted.
