Dutch regulator hits illegal casino with record €37m fine
KSA estimated last year that more money goes to illegal sites than licensed ones in the Netherlands.
The hit
The Dutch gambling regulator KSA has fined EOD Code SRL a record €37m for running a dozen unlicensed online casinos, including Instantcasino & Skyhills, according to KSA. The firm, which says it is registered in Costa Rica, offered games to Dutch players with no licence & no measures to block them.
Why it matters
The fine is based on an estimate of the company’s Dutch revenue. Several sites had no visible age checks & accepted crypto. KSA inspectors were able to register & gamble on the sites.
The record
| Investigation | Began with Instantcasino, later uncovered 11 more sites run by the same company |
|---|---|
| Market legalised | October 2021, Dutch online gambling market opened |
| Illegal market size | KSA estimated last year more money goes to illegal sites than licensed ones |
What happens next
Watch for whether EOD Code SRL appeals the fine & whether KSA opens further cases from the same investigation.
