Haiti’s new regulator covers casinos, betting & lottery banks
The authority will regulate, monitor & supervise gambling activities across the country.
The hit
Haiti has created a national gambling regulator & ordered operators to route all tax & licensing payments solely through its tax administration, according to iGaming Business. The Ministry of Economy & Finance announced the Autorité nationale des jeux de hasard et d’argent (ANJHA), covering casinos, betting & borlette banks nationwide.
Why it matters
The ministry says the goal is to curb money laundering, illicit financial flows & terrorist financing, & to bring more order, transparency & security to the sector.
The record
| Regulator announced | 5 October public notice (Haiti Ministry of Economy & Finance) |
|---|---|
| Legal basis | Three decrees published 21 August in Le Moniteur |
| Earlier discussion | Draft proposals considered at Council of Ministers meeting, 11 August |
| Payment channel | Payments supported by receipt under DGI rules |
| Regulator base | Port-au-Prince, with flexibility to open other offices |
What happens next
Watch for ANJHA to publish its first list of authorised operators & for details on licensing fees & penalties under the decrees.
