Superbet eyes top spot in Greece with €500m spend
Superbet says it already holds about 7% of Greek betting stakes after seven months in the market.
The hit
Superbet will invest about €500m in Greece over the next six years, the operator told reporters, according to local outlet OT.gr. The money covers sports sponsorships, technology, staff training & marketing as the company aims to become Greece’s leading betting operator within six years.
Why it matters
The spend signals Superbet is betting big on a market it entered just seven months ago, already claiming roughly 7% of Greek betting stakes. For bettors, heavier sponsorship & marketing usually means more promotions & brand visibility, but it also reflects competition with a sizeable illegal market the government says costs it hundreds of millions a year in lost revenue.
The record
| Investment pledge | €500m ($561m) over six years (Superbet) |
|---|---|
| October turnover | €270m ($303m) in total wagers (Superbet) |
| Estimated market share | about 7% of Greek betting stakes (Superbet) |
| Illegal gambling market size | €800m ($898m) estimated by research cited by Superbet |
| State revenue lost to illegal gambling | €400m ($449m) in 2025 (Greek government, March estimate) |
| Blocked domains | 12,642 in 2025, up from 9,590 in 2024 (Hellenic Gaming Commission) |
What happens next
Watch for Superbet’s sponsorship rollout & product changes in Greece as it works toward its six-year target, & for the Hellenic Gaming Commission’s next blacklist update tracking illegal domains.
