Indiana counties vote on $500m casino, Nebraska on mobile bets

Published: 2 min read
An empty polling station hall with rows of voting booths at dusk, no signage visible.

DraftKings & FanDuel have each put in nearly $10.3m to back Nebraska’s mobile betting push.

The hit

Voters in Nebraska, Indiana & Virginia go to the polls on Tuesday to decide gaming measures covering online sports betting, a $500m casino & satellite horse-race wagering, according to CDC Gaming. Nebraska’s two linked initiatives must both pass to legalise mobile wagering; Indiana’s question could authorise one inland casino licence across Allen, DeKalb or Steuben counties; Virginia’s votes concern satellite racing facilities in Pulaski & Amherst County.

Why it matters

A yes in Nebraska could open the state’s mobile market to DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, bet365 & theScore Bet, with 70% of new tax revenue earmarked for property-tax relief. Indiana’s vote doesn’t mean a casino gets built, but starts a licensing process with a nine-figure fee attached. Virginia’s measures are narrower, deciding only where satellite racing bets can be placed.

The record

Nebraska mobile betting campaign funds raised est. $21.7m, reportedly (Tax Relief Nebraska)
DraftKings & FanDuel contributions nearly $10.3m each
Nebraska sports betting revenue, last year about $9.3m, under $2m in tax (NRGC)
Proposed mobile wagering tax rate 20% of gross gaming revenue
Indiana casino licence fee $100m to the state, $50m to hurt communities
Indiana developer application deadline December 1 (IGC decision by April 15, 2027)

What happens next

Voting is on Tuesday. A no vote in an Indiana county ends the process there; a yes vote gives developers until December 1 to file applications for that county, with the Indiana Gaming Commission due to rule by April 15, 2027.
