Caesars boss gets promotion as Fertitta keeps him on after takeover
Reeg stays on despite Caesars shares falling since his last big takeover closed.
The hit
Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg is expected to run Tilman Fertitta’s Landry’s business, including Golden Nugget casinos, once Fertitta Entertainment’s $17.6bn Caesars takeover closes, according to Casino.org citing Vital Vegas. Reeg keeps his casino role but will not touch Fertitta’s auto group, the Houston Rockets or his Houston property holdings.
Why it matters
CEOs of acquired casino firms rarely survive the merger, let alone get handed a bigger job. Reeg is expected to take charge of a 600-plus restaurant empire spanning Bubba Gump’s to Morton’s. His record trimming non-core assets at Caesars could matter if regulators force the combined group to sell casinos in some states.
The record
| Expected close | Mid-2027 |
|---|---|
| Caesars shares since 2020 merger | Down 24.2% (vs MGM Resorts up nearly 75%) |
What happens next
Caesars’ regional revenue climbed nearly 6% last quarter, easing pressure on its lease talks with landlord VICI Properties.
