FanDuel bans customer 48 hours after CBS segment airs
FanDuel suspended a customer’s account after he featured in a critical CBS segment on its marketing practices. The company won’t say what prompted the ban.
The hit
FanDuel suspended a customer from placing further bets on Tuesday, according to CBS Evening News, after he appeared in a CBS This Morning segment on the firm’s marketing. The segment, fronted by chief correspondent Jim Axelrod, alleged FanDuel keeps bettors engaged even as losses mount. FanDuel told CBS any claim it fails to monitor problem behaviour is “completely false”.
Why it matters
FanDuel says harmful play triggers its Responsible Gaming Operations team. Axelrod said the company only notified the customer of his suspension this past Sunday, after he appeared in the CBS story. A FanDuel spokesperson would not say what caused the ban.
The record
| Segment aired | Sunday, CBS This Morning (Jim Axelrod) |
|---|---|
| FanDuel’s denial | “completely false” claim of inaction on problem gambling — FanDuel statement to CBS |
| Ban issued | Tuesday, as reported on CBS Evening News |
| Resources offered | BetBlocker & Kindbridge Behavioral Health Services — FanDuel spokesperson |
What happens next
Watch for whether CBS or regulators press FanDuel on the timing gap between its stated monitoring tools & this ban, & whether other operators face similar scrutiny.
