DraftKings’ DKeX overtakes rivals to hit No. 3 in US
DraftKings’ DKeX exchange has climbed to third place in the US, with CEO Jason Robins saying it did so with a narrower state footprint than rivals.
The hit
DraftKings CEO Jason Robins says DKeX, the company’s in-house prediction market exchange, has become the clear No. 3 US operator within months of its late-June launch. He made the claim during a Q&A with CNBC’s Contessa Brewer at the NEXTPredict Summit in New York. Data from Aldrin Research backs the claim, putting DKeX third in notional trading volume for the week ending 18 October. Kalshi holds a clear first place, with Polymarket a distant second.
Why it matters
DraftKings’ in-house exchange gives the company full control over its prediction market economics. Robins says the exchange’s rise came despite a much more limited state footprint than rivals, since DraftKings avoids sports event contracts in states where it already books traditional sports wagers to protect its gambling licences. Legal challenges to sports event contracts are edging towards the US Supreme Court, & Robins points to unexpected growth in financial contracts as a hedge.
The record
| DKeX notional trading volume | $1.04bn for week ending 18 October (Aldrin Research) |
|---|---|
| DKeX US market share | 3.57%, up from 2.33% for week ending 26 September (Aldrin Research) |
| DraftKings Predictions footprint | live in 38 states; full event contracts in only 18 (DraftKings/Yogonet) |
| DraftKings share price | down more than 40% this year amid prediction market boom (Yogonet) |
What happens next
Watch for the US Supreme Court ruling on sports-related event contracts. Robins says some firms have staked a lot on one outcome, but argues DraftKings is ‘well positioned going forward’ either way.
