888 withholds $930K win, calls it a technical glitch

Published: 1 min read
A long hall of dark, unlit gaming cabinets stretches into shadow beneath a dim amber glow, with soft light pooling on polished floor tiles and no people anywhere.

A 42-year-old Alberta gambler says the casino let him keep playing after flagging the glitch.

The hit

888casino has refused to pay a 42-year-old Alberta gambler the $930,000 he says he won, he told Gaming America. The operator attributes the win to a technical glitch on Pragmatic Play’s Floating Dragon – Year of the Snake, after the casino sent him 15 congratulatory emails.

Why it matters

Jackpot-glitch disputes are a grey area: courts have ruled for both casinos & players in past cases. The gambler argues he was able to place 734 additional spins after the issue was identified, which he frames as the casino failing to stop him. Without eCOGRA jurisdiction over Canadian players, his options are limited.

The record

Disputed win Won 16 March 2026 (Alberta gambler’s claim)
Alleged total owed CAD 1,267,003, removed from account (gambler’s claim)
Attempted cashout CAD 47,000, blocked by 888casino
Error scale 35,072 jackpots paid in error across Evoke’s gambling brands
Gibraltar ruling Contractual enforceability issue referred to a judge, May (Gibraltar Gaming Division)

What happens next

The gambler is gathering gameplay records & weighing an independent adjudication service, but says legal fees against 888 are too much for him right now.
