Spain caps online betting deposits at €700 a day
The regulator will check the €700 default cap itself in real time, so operators won’t share player data with each other.
The hit
Spain’s gambling regulator has switched on a single deposit cap that follows each player across every licensed online operator, rather than per site. The DGOJ, according to CasinoBeats, set the default limits at €700 a day, €1,750 a week & €3,300 over four weeks, becoming binding on 26 March 2027. Players can lower, raise or switch the cap off through a dedicated procedure.
Why it matters
Multi-operator players make up roughly a third of everyone active in Spanish online gambling, according to the ministry, so they’re the group most exposed to the new cap. For operators, taking a deposit will now depend on a regulator-held check as well as their own limits, with no data shared between brands.
The record
| Default cap | €700 a day, €1,750 a week, €3,300 over four weeks |
|---|---|
| Launch date | 21 October 2026, alongside the Player Portal, a free government dashboard for tracking deposits & gambling activity (DGOJ release) |
| Binding date | 26 March 2027 |
| Limit change delay | Three working days before any change takes effect |
| Raise frequency | Once every three months maximum |
What happens next
Licensees have five months to integrate with the DGOJ’s checks before the cap becomes binding. Watch for the outcome of the regulator’s second consultation on a mandatory monthly risk test under Royal Decree 176/2023, which closed on 22 October. Operators disputed the DGOJ’s €130,000-per-operator implementation estimate for that draft in 2025, according to iGaming Business.
