Ohio gives Coinbase, Robinhood & Polymarket 14 days to quit state
The OCCC skipped Kalshi, which already sued the state & lost.
The hit
The Ohio Casino Control Commission sent cease-&-desist letters to 10 prediction platforms on Friday, ordering them to stop offering sports event contracts in the state within 14 days. The letters landed a week after the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the OCCC can enforce its gambling rules against Kalshi, according to InGame. Coinbase, Robinhood Derivatives, Polymarket & Gemini Titan were among those named; Kalshi itself was not, as it reportedly needed no letter after already suing the state & losing, according to InGame.
Why it matters
The ruling lets Ohio treat sports event contracts as unlicensed gambling, a felony under state law. It also opens the door for Kentucky, Michigan & Tennessee, the other states in the Sixth Circuit, to enforce their own gambling laws against the same platforms.
The record
| First Robinhood letter | 31 March 2025 (OCCC) |
|---|---|
| Kalshi’s suit against Ohio | Filed October 2025, lost on appeal (InGame) |
| States already banning contracts | Michigan, Nevada & Washington state (InGame) |
What happens next
Watch whether any of the 10 platforms comply within the window, & whether other Sixth Circuit states issue their own cease-&-desist letters under the same ruling.
