Norway plans first legal online poker via Norsk Tipping
Norsk Tipping could become the first legal provider of online poker in Norway under a new ministry proposal.
The hit
Norway’s Ministry of Culture & Equality has opened a fast-track consultation to let state operator Norsk Tipping offer legal online poker for the first time. The proposal, published 29 September, sets a daily loss cap of NOK5,000 ($521) & a four-table limit to pull players back from unregulated foreign sites.
Why it matters
Norway runs a state gambling monopoly & bans commercial operators from marketing to its players. Grey market poker sites including PokerStars, Unibet & 888 have already quit the country. The ministry says a legal, capped product with built-in breaks can channel players into the regulated market without opening the door to bigger losses.
