Kalshi hires ex-FBI man as insider trading cases pile up
Kalshi has already traded $260bn in 2026, triple all of 2025’s volume, & plans to double its 250-strong headcount within six months.
The hit
Kalshi has hired former FBI agent Sean Fern to run its first anti-money laundering team, according to NPR. The move comes as prediction market platforms face criminal investigations into alleged abuse, with Kalshi itself facing mounting scrutiny over insider trading & market manipulation, as its trading volume has exploded.
Why it matters
Prediction markets let people bet on elections, speeches & policy outcomes, which experts say invites insiders to cash in on information the public doesn’t have. Kalshi’s spokeswoman says the platform is maturing as banks & hedge funds start using it. Kalshi hopes Fern’s hire lends credibility to the platform amid the scrutiny.
