Kaizen vows Brazil jobs safe as Lula’s betting ban bites
Kaizen Gaming has pledged to keep Brazilian jobs safe until Congress finishes reviewing the betting ban.
The hit
Betano’s parent company Kaizen Gaming has publicly pledged to protect its Brazilian employees’ jobs, but only until Congress finishes reviewing the government’s ban on online betting. In a LinkedIn statement, Kaizen urged President Lula’s government to reverse the measure, warning it risks pushing bettors to illegal operators.
Why it matters
Betano was Brazil’s biggest bookmaker by user interest, according to the Blask Index, & SBC News calls it arguably the operator most exposed to the ban. Kaizen argues a ban does not remove demand, it just strips away licensing protections, leaving punters at illegal sites with no contribution to the country.
The record
| Betano’s share of Brazil user interest | 26% Brand Accumulated Power (Blask Index) |
|---|---|
| Illegal iGaming operators | up from 331 to 575, a 74% rise in 24 hours, 25-26 September (SBC Noticias Brasil) |
| Allwyn’s stake in Kaizen Gaming | 36.75% |
| Brazil’s global gambling market rank | 5th largest worldwide (Blask) |
| Ban announced | 25 September |
What happens next
Watch Brazil’s National Congress, which must validate or reject the provisional measure; the ban could also lapse, be rejected by the Chamber of Deputies or Senate, or be overturned by the Supreme Federal Court.
