Golden Nugget evacuates casino floor amid camera outage report
The casino sits last among Atlantic City’s nine venues on operating profit in the first half.
The hit
Golden Nugget Atlantic City cleared its entire casino floor on Thursday 8 October after its surveillance system reportedly went offline, according to Atlantic County Scanner News, a Facebook account cited by Casino.org. Security shut down slot & redemption machines before escorting patrons out, with the floor dark for about two hours before machines were powered back on.
Why it matters
New Jersey law requires Atlantic City casinos to operate a closed-circuit camera system covering cages, tables, slots, exits & other critical areas, with the state regulator holding unfettered access to the feeds. It is suspected, but not confirmed, that the casino’s camera feed went offline, which Atlantic County Scanner News says likely caused the floor to clear.
The record
| Evacuation reported | Around 1:15pm EST, 8 October (Atlantic County Scanner News) |
|---|---|
| Machines shut down | Around 12:40pm, floor cleared roughly 15 minutes later |
| Floor offline | About two hours |
| Golden Nugget GGR | $90m through August, second-lowest of nine Atlantic City casinos |
| Operating profit | $1.1m in H1, last among the nine properties |
What happens next
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has not confirmed the cause to Casino.org. Watch for whether the regulator opens a review, given its unfettered access to casino camera feeds, recordings & photographs.
