Finland issues first ban under new gaming law to MagicPoro
MagicPoro said it told partners to stop Finnish-language content, but the NPB kept finding campaigns, according to NEXT.io.
The hit
Finland has banned Estonian operator MagicPoro from marketing to Finnish players, with a conditional fine if it breaches the order, according to Finland’s National Police Board. It is the first such order issued since Finland’s new gaming law passed in 2025.
Why it matters
The ban signals Finland is willing to enforce its new law against operators targeting its market without local permission. MagicPoro also goes on a payment blocking list, cutting off Finnish banks & payment firms from processing its bets.
The record
| Investigation opened | 2025, into MagicPoro brands Pelikaani, Pelikioski & Bigwin (National Police Board) |
|---|---|
| Conditional fine | €1.2m if MagicPoro breaches the prohibition order (National Police Board) |
| Additional brand found | Pottila, also linked to MagicPoro (National Police Board) |
| Marketing campaigns cited | Two Pelikioski campaigns on the Viralify platform (NEXT.io) |
What happens next
Watch whether MagicPoro contests the prohibition or continues marketing in Finland, which could trigger the fine if ruled a breach. The order may also weigh against any future licence bid once Finland’s commercial gaming market opens.
