NCPG boss Maurer quits after Kalshi deal sparks member exodus

Kalshi pledged $2m over two years to the harm-reduction group before members began walking out.

NCPG executive director Heather Maurer has resigned, according to the NCPG Board of Directors, which said she will stay until 16 October to help with the transition while a search for her replacement begins. The resignation follows member agencies quitting the group over its partnership with Kalshi, according to Legal Sports Report.

Why it matters

The exits show state regulators do not want to be linked to a company some have fined or sued over prediction markets. Losing state gaming boards as members weakens NCPG’s credibility as a neutral voice on gambling harm just as Kalshi’s legal status is being fought in court.
