Polymarket weighs token or IPO as valuation talks top $20bn
Intercontinental Exchange has already put up to $2bn on the table for a stake in Polymarket.
The hit
Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan hinted at an “onchain asset with real programmable utility” at TOKEN2049 in Singapore on 7 October, reviving token speculation. Bloomberg reports the company is weighing that route against a traditional equity listing, including a possible IPO. Polymarket says no token, airdrop or launch date has been announced.
Why it matters
Nothing here is confirmed, but the stakes are real. A token would hand holders exposure to a platform now reportedly valued above $20bn, up from roughly $9bn in 2025. An IPO would instead route that upside through public markets, with Intercontinental Exchange already committed to invest up to $2bn. Bettors watching Polymarket’s prices have no new product yet, just two competing paths & a CEO dropping hints without details.
The record
| Coplan’s hint | Discussed an onchain asset at TOKEN2049, Singapore, 7 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| ICE investment | Up to $2bn pledged, October 2025; $600m completed March 2026 |
| Valuation climb | From $8bn (pre-ICE) to $15bn (April 2026) to above $20bn (August 2026 talks) |
| Funding sought | About $1bn reportedly sought at above $20bn valuation, August 2026 |
| US regulation | QCX LLC designated a CFTC contract market since 9 July 2025 |
| Revenue | Annualised revenue reported well above $1bn |
What happens next
Watch for any confirmed IPO filing, listing date or token announcement from Polymarket, none of which had been made as of 14 October.
