Your cookie choice
Necessary-only is the default. A signed, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax cookie called ib_consent remembers your choice for 180 days. You can accept analytics, reject optional analytics or change your choice through Privacy choices in the footer.
Google Analytics & the optional InfoBets measurement below stay off until you accept analytics. Google Ads, remarketing, Meta & Contentsquare remain off. Rejecting analytics does not prevent you from reading the site.
Optional site measurement
Only after you accept analytics, an ib_metrics cookie holds a random identifier. It expires 48 hours after your last activity. The server keeps a salted cryptographic receipt for deduplication, rather than the raw identifier, your email or your IP address.
A reading event requires 10 seconds with the page visible. Repeated views of that article are deduplicated for 24 hours. An ad visibility event requires at least half the placement to remain visible for one continuous second; a click is counted once per page visit & slot. Editors & common bots are excluded.
Temporary measurement receipts are scheduled for hourly cleanup; site activity can delay a scheduled task. Aggregate daily event totals are retained for 13 months. These counts are partial because consent choices, blockers & device behaviour affect them. They are not unique people or independently audited advertiser reach.
Google Analytics
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics uses first-party cookies, such as _ga, to help us understand page activity, browser/device information & approximate location. Your browser connects to Google, which processes connection information including your IP address to provide the service & derive location information.
Google processes Analytics measurement for us under its applicable service terms. Measurement data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Read Google’s data-use explanation, international-transfer safeguards & privacy policy for details.
Changing your choice to necessary-only stops future Google Analytics loading & measurement from this site. Google Ads, advertising personalisation & remarketing are not enabled by this choice.
Article request counts
The public view figure is an aggregate of article requests recorded by the server. It includes repeat requests, bots & signed-in visits, so it is not a count of unique people & does not prove that an article was read. Caching or requests that do not reach the application can affect the total.
This counter does not create visitor identifiers or retain visitor IP addresses, user-agent strings or browsing histories. It stores a cumulative article total. It operates separately from optional analytics; hosting & security logs are described below.
Comments
WordPress stores your comment, displayed name, email address & submission details such as your IP address & browser user-agent for moderation & spam prevention. Approved comments display your name & comment publicly; your email address is not displayed. Comment records remain with the article until removed.
If you choose the comment form’s save-details option, WordPress remembers your name & email in this browser for a later comment. This is separate from analytics consent. Contact us about a comment correction or deletion.
Appearance preference
The infobets-appearance local-storage setting remembers Light, Dark or Use device setting. It is a functional preference, contains no visitor identifier & remains until you change it or clear your browser’s site data.
PadBets tools & external links
Embedded PadBets tools load only when you choose to load them. At that point your browser connects to PadBets, which receives the normal browser request, including connection information such as your IP address. Its own privacy terms apply to that interaction.
The InfoBets Brief
We store your email address, subscription state, consent timestamps & the policy version associated with your signup. A confirmation token is stored as a hash & expires after 24 hours. Your subscription starts only after you confirm. You can unsubscribe using the link in a confirmation email or an edition.
Active subscription records remain while you are subscribed. Pending, failed-mail & unsubscribed records are removed after 30 days. We use the website’s mail system to send confirmation & subscription messages; acceptance by that mail system does not guarantee inbox delivery.
If you start the Brief in our Telegram bot, we store your Telegram ID & the date you joined, only to send you the Brief each Friday. Send /stop to the bot & we delete your ID.
Alerts
If you turn on story alerts, the push service (OneSignal) stores a subscription for your browser so it can deliver them. You can turn alerts off in your browser at any time.
Commercial enquiries
We store the contact details, company, markets, budget & message you provide for up to 12 months so we can assess & respond to your enquiry. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to the Brief or create an advertising agreement.
Security & website operation
Forms use short-lived anti-spam checks. A salted network hash can be retained for one hour for rate limiting; the form system does not store the raw IP address in those records. Our hosting, delivery & security providers may process connection information & keep operational logs under their own service arrangements. Authenticated site administrators also use WordPress login cookies.
We use personal information to deliver requested services, manage consent & protect the site. Your applicable privacy rights may include access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection or a complaint to the relevant supervisory authority.
