Stake joins 30 operators live in Alberta’s iGaming market
Operators keep 80% of net iGaming revenue; the government keeps 20%, with 3% of gross revenue ring-fenced for First Nations & addiction treatment.
The hit
Stake Canada has conditional registration from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC) & is targeting an Oct 12 launch, according to Covers.com. The date lands one day before the deadline for operators seeking an Alberta licence to exit the province’s unregulated grey market. Stake still needs a commercial operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) before it can legally take wagers.
Why it matters
The AGLC handles licensing & compliance while the AiGC manages operating agreements & the province’s revenue split, a two-step process that is part of what has made Alberta attractive to global brands. Stake first appeared on the AGLC’s registered-operator list in late September before its conditional registration landed. It now joins a market with FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM & Bet99 already live.
The record
| Conditional registration granted | Oct 6 (Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission) |
|---|---|
| Grey-market exit deadline for operators | Oct 13 |
| Alberta iGaming platforms approved | 50+, with around 30 operational |
| Alberta market launch date | July 13 |
| Operator revenue share under AiGC framework | 80% kept by operators, 20% to government |
What happens next
Watch whether Stake finalises its operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation in time for the planned launch, & whether other grey-market operators exit before the deadline.
