Turkey suspends 448 club execs in betting probe
The federation’s latest sweep follows an audit that found hundreds of referees held betting accounts.
The hit
Turkey’s football federation has provisionally suspended 448 current & former club officials, referring them all to its disciplinary committee, according to the federation. The list includes Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan & Beşiktaş vice-president Hakan Daltaban, plus officials from Galatasaray & Fenerbahçe. The federation says all 448 placed bets while holding their posts at some point over the past five years.
Why it matters
This is about club executives, not clubs or players. Trabzonspor’s summer signing Mohamed Salah has no connection to the case. But it lands Doğan’s own club under a disciplinary cloud just as Trabzonspor rides its biggest commercial wave in years. For bettors watching Turkish football’s integrity, it is the latest sign the sport’s governance, not just results, is under scrutiny.
The record
| Scope | Officials served at Süper Lig & TFF 1. Lig clubs during the 2026-27 season (Turkish Football Federation) |
|---|---|
| Referee chief arrested separately | Ferhat Gündoğdu, head of the Central Referee Committee, plus six others, over alleged interference in referee classifications & appointments, two days earlier |
| 2025 referee audit | 371 of 571 active referees held betting accounts, one with over 18,000 bets |
| Fallout from that audit | 149 referees & 1,024 players suspended over the following year |
| Doğan’s defence | Acknowledges a betting account, says he disclosed it to authorities (A Spor) |
What happens next
Watch the federation’s disciplinary committee hearings for Doğan & the rest of the full list, & whether authorities formally link the betting probe to the referee chief’s arrest.
